Team Peace Challenge
The Team Peace Challenge is a special annual competition for PTPI student chapters. For completing activities throughout the year, PTPI student chapters have the opportunity to earn points. The 30 chapters with the moist points earn awards: the top 10 chapters earn the gold award, the next highest chapters the silver award and then the bronze award. The gold award is doted with 200 US Dollars, the silver award with 100 US Dollars and the bronze award with 50 US Dollars.
The four main categories of activities for the Team Peace Challenge are Programming, Membership, Publicity and Other. Set your goals high and see how many points your chapter can earn to qualify for cash awards for your chapter treasury! It is easy to participate: Request the Team Peace Challenge Bi-Annual Reporting Form at the European Office in Berlin, fill in the form and send it back.
This is how you can earn points in each category:
Programming:
Homestay Activities: 5 points (per person)
Meet members of chapters in other countries and experience their way of life through PTPI’s International Visitors Program. PTPI Student Chapters are encouraged to participate in homestay activities to experience Peace through Understanding firsthand. For each homestay arranged through PTPI World Headquarters or reported to your PTPI regional contact, you can earn points. You can earn a maximum of 50 points per travel group.
Fundraising Activities: 10 points (per activity)
Fundraising provides the money needed to accomplish goals, either locally or internationally. Students can gather contributions for chapter expenses, services to the community and other necessary causes. Be as creative as you can with fundraising ideas, taking advantage of all the resources available to your chapter. Be aware of and respect national regulations in your country of origin regarding fundraising for all actions taken.
Cultural Activities: 15 points (per activity)
Our chapters learn about other cultures through Student Chapter lesson plans and PTPI’s Sister Chapter Program, which enables two chapters from different continents to communicate and complete joint projects. In addition to participation in those programs, you can organize your own activities, for exampe international dinners, cultural or intercultural events, educational campaigns, etc.
Service/Humanitarian activities: 15 points (per activity)
Service and humanitarianism are an important part of being in a student chapter. Here’s how your chapter should choose a service project. First, find out what is meaningful to your chapter members. Next, identify needs within the local and international community. Finally, plan your projects. For service ideas, check out what PTPI chapters have done for past Global Youth Service Days at http://www.ptpigysd.org/. We also suggest: Dive into PTPI‐sponsored service projects such as Operation International Children or the Global Landmine Initiative. Did you know estimates indicate more than 300,000 men, women and children are landmine survivors? Countless others are victims because of an immeasurable ripple effect on families and communities. Do something about these issues. Start with low cost or no cost projects.
Global Youth Service Day Project: 25 points
All student chapters are encouraged to organize projects for the annual Global Youth Service Day. For more information, visit www.ptpigysd.org.
PTPI Conference Attendance: 20 points (per member)
You can earn points for your participation in our conferences, for exampe PTPI's Global Youth Forum, European Youth Forum, European Conference and Middle-East/Africa Regional Conference.
Membership:
Membership Drive: 10 points
Don’t let your chapter close when you graduate from high school! If you focus on recruiting younger members to carry the chapter forward, your chapter can promote Peace through Understanding for years to come. During a chapter meeting, brainstorm ways to recruit members. If current members will soon graduate, focus on ways to recruit younger members. Get input from your principal, guidance counselors, teachers, Student Ambassador delegation leaders, community leaders and fellow chapter members. They might know students who would be interested in joining your chapter. And of course, try to increase your membership with students from a variety of backgrounds to diversify your chapter.
Dues and Membership Updates submitted by November 1: 30 points
Make sure to renew your student chapter membership before the deadline of November 1. This earns you extra points in the Team Peace Challenge.
